Privacy Policy

JOV Office, JOV Cleaner and JOV Control are made by [OWNER NAME] (“we”), and they share one JOV Account. This policy explains what these apps and this website use, and why. In short: your documents never leave your Mac, and we keep only what’s needed to run your account.

Your documents

JOV Office opens, edits and saves your files on your Mac. Your documents, their contents and their names are never sent to us or to anyone else. Features such as text recognition in scanned PDFs run on your Mac.

What the app sends

For your JOV Account, the apps connect to our account server: to sign you in, to check your JOV Office trial or subscription, and to note which JOV app you use on which Mac (a check-in, at most every few hours). JOV Office also connects to this website, about once a day, to check for updates. They send:

  • Your email address and password when you sign in or create an account. The password travels encrypted and is stored only as a one-way hash by our account provider. If you continue with Google instead, Google tells us your email address and name, and we don’t get a password.
  • A device identifier: a one-way hash made from your Mac’s hardware ID, which can’t be turned back into it. We use it to give one free trial of JOV Office per Mac, and to count which JOV apps an account uses on which Mac.
  • The app’s name and version, and that it runs on macOS.
  • A daily anonymous ping, whether or not you’re signed in: which JOV app, the hashed device identifier, the app and macOS versions, and whether the Mac has an Apple or Intel chip, so we can count how many Macs use each app and which versions they run. It isn’t linked to your account.
  • Crash reports, only if you agree: when an app quits unexpectedly, it asks you the next time it opens whether to send the crash’s technical details (the app and macOS versions, the chip, and where in the app’s code it stopped). You can tell it to always send them, or never. They contain no documents, file names or personal details; your Mac’s user name is removed from them.

None of the apps sends us your documents, file names, what you clean or what you control.

What this website uses

When you sign in or create an account here, your browser talks directly to our account server. The website keeps your sign-in session in your browser’s local storage. It uses no cookies, no third-party analytics and no ads.

To know how many people visit, the website counts page views and clicks on the Download button itself, without cookies. A count keeps only the page, the name of the site that linked to it (for example a search engine, never the full address), the page’s language, whether the window is phone- or desktop-sized, the day, and for a download the app version. No IP address, browser details or visitor identifier is stored with it. Like any web request, the request that sends a count can appear for a limited time in our account provider’s standard request logs (IP address, browser details); those logs aren’t linked to the counts. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing is counted.

We are also testing two looks for the JOV apps’ pages: the page that lets you try the app in your browser, and a simpler page with one Download button. The first time you open the app picker, your browser is given one of the two at random, and it remembers the letter of that look (A or B) in its own storage so you keep seeing the same one; nothing else is stored, no cookie is used, and the letter is never sent with anything that identifies you. For the comparison, the website counts in the same way as above how many times each step was reached for each look: the picker shown, an app picked, the app’s page shown, clicks on Download, Sign in and the other JOV apps, and the install steps reached, with the app, the day and whether the window is phone- or desktop-sized. When the home page or an app’s page opens, we also count the name of the site that linked to it (never the full address) and the tag in the link, if it has one (the ?ref= or ?utm_source= part we add to links we share). Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control turn these counts off too.

Like any website, our web host ([WEB HOST]) may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to keep the site secure and running.

Payments

Subscriptions are paid through Stripe. You enter your card details on Stripe’s own pages, and they never reach us. Stripe tells us your subscription’s status, plan and renewal date, and gives us a customer reference so you can manage your billing. Stripe’s own privacy policy is at stripe.com/privacy.

What we store

  • Your account: your email, your password as a one-way hash (kept by our account provider), when the account was created, and when your free trial started and ends.
  • Your subscription: its status, plan, renewal or end date, and Stripe’s references for it.
  • JOV Office check-ins: when JOV Office last checked your account, and the app version it sent, so we can see which versions are in use. Nothing about your documents or how you use the app.
  • JOV app check-ins: for each JOV app (JOV Office, JOV Cleaner or JOV Control) and each Mac you sign in on, the hashed device identifier, the app version, that it runs on macOS, and when that app first and last checked in, so we can count how many people use each app. A Mac you stop using is replaced once an account has 20 for one app. Nothing about your files or what you do in the app.
  • App pings: for each JOV app and each Mac, the hashed device identifier, the app and macOS versions, the chip type, and when it first and last pinged. Not linked to any account.
  • Crash reports you chose to send: the app, its version, the macOS version, the chip, the hashed device identifier, when it crashed and the technical report. We keep them for 90 days, and at most 20 per Mac.
  • Free trials: the hashed device identifier and which account used it for a free trial.
  • Sign-in and security records: the IP address, the browser or app details and the time of each sign-in and each subscription check. Our account server keeps them for security, for a limited time.

Who processes it

Supabase hosts our account server and database, including its sign-in and request logs; Stripe handles payments; and [WEB HOST] hosts this website. They process this data for us, and some of them may store it outside your country.

How long we keep it

We keep your account data while your account exists. When it’s deleted, we delete your profile, subscription records, free-trial records and app check-ins with it. App pings aren’t linked to an account; crash reports are deleted after 90 days. Stripe may keep billing records for as long as the law requires.

Your choices

You can see your account on the Account page, change your password, and cancel your subscription at any time in Manage Billing. You can ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it.

Deleting your account

Email [CONTACT EMAIL] from the address you signed up with and ask us to delete your account. Cancel your subscription in Manage Billing first. We’ll tell you when it’s done.

Children

The JOV apps aren’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. For important changes, we’ll also tell you by email.
